The First Unitarian Universalist Church of New Orleans and the Greater New Orleans Unitarian Universalists invite you to join a commemoration ceremony honoring the tenth year since Hurricane Katrina and the failure of the Federal Levees devastated New Orleans and the Gulf Coast region. Our special guest will be Rev. Marta Valentin who was minister of FUUNO at the time of Katrina. We will collectively remember those events and the years of recovery with a ritual meal in the fashion of a Jewish Seder.
In this ritual we share readings and stories and foods that symbolize aspects of this history. This will be followed by a Pot Luck style meal where we will have informal time to share our stories and engage with one another, honoring the ways we have built and re-built community together over the last ten years.
We will gather in the Sanctuary at First UU Church, 5212 S. Claiborne Avenue in New Orleans. From 5:30 to 6 we will have informal social time, The Ritual will occur from 6:00 to 7:15, followed by the Pot Luck. The event will end between 8:30 and 9:00, depending on how long people wish to linger.
Volunteers are needed for set up and preparation, for serving, for clean up. As well, all are invited to bring a dish for the pot luck. Please RSVP using the following link:
